The many facets of alligator skin at Manufacture Jean Rousseau
In October and November, Manufacture Jean Rousseau set sail for New York and London to attend the WatchTime New York event and the unmissable Salon QP, where it presented its latest creations in alligator skin, one of the Maison's signature materials.
New technical features for alligator skin
These two events gave Jean Rousseau the opportunity to present one of its latest major innovations: the water-resistant treatment of its alligator skins. Developed over almost 8 months by the Manufacture teams, this exceptional treatment protects leather goods from the rain and other unexpected splashes. To pair this property with an undeniably luxurious look, the alligator skins are available in two different finishes – suede and velvet touch – and a multitude of colours.
Another new feature is the use of Kevlar in the design of its watch straps. This ultra-resistant synthetic fibre can be used alone or in combination with other materials, particularly alligator skin, for straps that are supple and strong, yet incredibly thin!

Elegance: a primary concern
While technical innovation is a key issue for the Jean Rousseau design teams, elegance is never sidelined! As proof of this, the Manufacture recently unveiled a vintage alligator finish featuring an extremely sophisticated patina that is hand-applied by an artisan to individual leather items. The patina provides a casual-chic touch, as well as an absolutely unique look.
They say that the devil is in the details... Manufacture Jean Rousseau attaches particular importance to this adage, which inspires the Maison to adorn its watch straps with the most exquisite finishes. At WatchTime New York, for instance, Jean Rousseau presented straps stitched with platinum or 18K gold thread, cleverly combining hypoallergenic properties and high resistance with the ultimate in refinement.
